Recently, some users have reported that their antivirus software (such as Kaspersky, Norton 360, etc.) is warning them that an Overwolf process called “OverwolfBrowser.exe” is attempting to access their webcam.
This process name is shared by any Overwolf app currently running, and you may see this alert when using apps that include webcam features for example, Medal.TV or Outplayed, where you can add a webcam overlay to your edited videos.
Not using any webcam features?
If you receive this notification while not using an app that uses a webcam, please note that this is a false positive. Overwolf has no reason to access your webcam without your permission.
These detections are likely related to the Chromium-based browser framework that Overwolf uses. Similar false alerts have been reported with Chrome and other Chromium-based applications (see an example here).
We have already contacted the relevant antivirus providers to report these false positives and are awaiting their updates.
